I Don’t Have a Story

When I talk to people about Stories Worth Retelling the first reaction is, “What a great idea”. The second part of that conversation where I ask, do you want to capture your stories to save for your children and grandchildren, I am told, “I don’t have any good stories.” Let me ask you, right now, to take one minute and think about your favorite place….

Now, tell me about it: what makes it special in your mind, how does the memory make you feel, who was there with you…

This little exercise demonstrates how asking the right questions can trigger a memory worth sharing. Everyone has a story and the people who love you want to here about you. Those who resist the most usually have the best stories, and once they start sharing they find it fulfilling to remember and share. The typical reaction I get after the interview is, “That was fun!”
